Guitarist Nels Cline is a wide-ranging artist whose resume includes albums made in the the jazz, rock, and avant-garde idioms, membership in Wilco, and time spent working with his own group Quartet Music, as well as for his general involvement in the West Coast's avant and improv scenes. During the '90s, Cline joined drummer Gregg Bendian's Interzone group while leading his own trio, the Nels Cline Singers. In 2004, he joined the alt-country and experimental pop act Wilco. His recordings since then include New Monastery for Andrew Hill (2006), a retrospective soundtrack for a touring exhibit of Ed Ruscha's paintings (Dirty Baby, 2010), Lovers, his 2016 Blue Note debut, Share the Wealth in 2020, and Consentrik Quartet in 2025, amid several collaborative projects.
