Singer-songwriter Moses Sumney is critically acclaimed for his thoughtful writing, ethereal vocals, and layered soundscapes that deliberately defy categorization.
∙ Growing up in Southern California and his parents’ native Ghana, he wrote more than 100 a cappella songs before teaching himself to play guitar and piano as a young adult.
∙ In 2013, TV on the Radio producer Dave Sitek gave Sumney the 4-track he used to record his debut EP, 2014’s Mid-City Island.
∙ He sang and coproduced “Title of This Song” on the 2013 compilation Song Reader, featuring various artists’ recordings of tunes from Beck’s book of sheet music.
∙ Pop star Solange asked her friend Sumney to sing backup on “Mad (feat. Lil Wayne),” from her 2016 album, A Seat at the Table.
