About Moonchild
Artist Biography
Moonchild’s sophisticated 21st-century R&B blends soulful pop with laidback jazz. Formed in 2011, the L.A.-based trio of multi-instrumentalists are led by singer Amber Navran, whose velvet-smooth vocals have saturated the group’s songs with sensuality since their full-length 2012 debut, Be Free, and tracks like the gently funky and playful “Back to Me.” That record won them the acclaim of all-stars like Stevie Wonder. The band grew more ambitious on 2015’s Please Rewind and 2017’s Voyager, where they crafted lush, mesmerizing head-nodders like “The List.” In 2019, Little Ghost saw them creating more complex but still stunning arrangements with a nuanced marriage of acoustic and electronic elements on songs like “The Other Side,” which blossomed with warm tones. Moonchild’s fifth record, 2022’s Starfruit, pays tribute to the Black women who’ve inspired their sound, and collaborations with artists such as Lalah Hathaway produced “Tell Him” and other neo-soul gems.
