French house duo Modjo released just one album and a handful of singles between 1999 and 2003, when producer Romain Tranchart and singer Yann Destagnol split off to pursue solo careers.
• Tranchart had a nomadic childhood, living in France, Mexico, Brazil, Algeria, and Scotland before returning to Paris, where he played drums in a few bands before meeting Destagnol on the local scene.
• Modjo’s first single, “Lady (Hear Me Tonight),” was a Top 10 hit across Europe, reaching No. 1 in the UK and Switzerland and peaking at No. 7 in France.
• The duo’s self-titled 2001 album was most successful in France, where it reached No. 21, and Switzerland, where it peaked at No. 13.
• Since the group split up, Tranchart has found success as a producer and remixer for artists including Coolio and Shaggy. Destagnol released a solo album, The Great Blue Scar, in 2006.
