About Michael Murphy
Artist Biography
In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My earliest musical memory is when I was first introduced to the Beatles. I was five years old, and my dad played "Magical Mystery Tour" on my older brother's CD player, which doubled as an alarm clock. The opening horns send me back to that place
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Elton John, Tumbleweed Connection (Remastered) Remastered Little Feat, Waiting for Columbus (Deluxe Edition) [Live] Steely Dan, Can't Buy A Thrill These albums and artists have profoundly impacted my taste and my musicianship. They explore familiar themes but turn it on its head. It taught me how to explore ways to write, to keep it interesting, but more importantly, to keep it simple.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Traveller” This was the first song I wrote when I started Indigo Jones. It's the perfect encapsulation of the entire album with flavors of Americana and old rock. It is essentially the title track that sums up what has been and is to come.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? "I have seen so many things on this journey of mine." I have been stranded in cities, had instruments lost, lost close friends while I'm hundreds of miles away, and can't do anything about it. The best part is playing for my close friends and family.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I have so much music to share that I want to travel to each corner of the globe, meet new people, and play my music. I write to express how I feel with the hope that it might resonate with at least one person, and I hope to find more of those people.
