With an almost absurdist-punk method of songwriting, yet with a keen ear for new wave pop melody, Mica “Micachu” Levi designs songs which defy explanation; she’s tossed out “nosebleed experimental anti-folk monkey-brain” as a stand-in definition, but contends she’s ultimately a pop artist. Whatever it’s called, she and her Shapes, two friends who support her on various, often hand-crafted instruments, built a quick fanbase and a critical buzz leading up to 2009 debut JEWELLERY.
