Formed in Toronto in 1998, the alternative-rock band Metric has received multiple Canadian music industry honors, including two Juno Awards for Alternative Album of the Year.
∙ The group performed their pulsating New Wave single “Dead Disco” in the acclaimed 2004 French film Clean.
∙ Live It Out, their sophomore album, featured the punky single “Monster Hospital,” which was included on NME’s list of 2006’s Tracks of the Year.
∙ Metric’s album Fantasies debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart in 2009.
∙ Future Academy Award-winner Brie Larson—playing a character inspired by Metric frontwoman Emily Haines—sang their song “Black Sheep” in the 2010 comedy Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
∙ Rock legend Lou Reed sang the chorus on the bubbly 2012 pop track “The Wanderlust” from Metric’s biggest album, Synthetica.
∙ 2012’s “Youth Without Youth” was the first single ever to debut at No. 1 on the Canadian alternative-rock charts, and it stayed there for a record 16 weeks.
