DJ/producer Beka Kartsivadze, aka Maxic, has a real talent for plucking a familiar song or hook and building a brand-new Afro-house banger around it. Born in Batumi, Georgia in 1989, he has teamed up repeatedly with his producer brother Qarcii, even co-founding the label BlackSea. Since 2023, Kartsivadze has reworked the disparate likes of Moby (“Natural Blues”), Sting (“Desert Rose”), and Mason and Princess Superstar (“Perfect”). Whether he’s sourcing spot-on guest vocals or simply extending the source material and adding dreamy swathes of rhythm and melody, his club concoctions are intoxicating indeed. Finding just the right notes of emotional release in percolating workouts, his 2024 debut album Follow Your Dreams is an ideal calling card.
