The music that Londoner Ben Jacobs makes under the name Max Tundra is dizzyingly dense, labyrinthine, and hyperactive, but at the same time utterly effervescent, sunny, and obsessed with melody. First appearing with a 1998 single on Warp, he signed to Domino and released Some Best Friend You Turned Out to Be (2000), a full-length that mixed acoustic and electronic instruments (all sequenced on an Amiga 500 computer) and attempted to invent 11 different types of music. This was followed by 2002's acclaimed Mastered by Guy at the Exchange, a maximalist left-field pop album. 2008's Parallax Error Beheads You was even more pop-oriented as well as more purely electronic. Tundra eventually gained recognition as a significant influence on PC Music and hyperpop, and his 2022 Remixtape featured reworks by artists like A.G. Cook and Kero Kero Bonito. Tundra released a cover of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work" in 2023.
