Marteria's alter ego Marsimoto arrived on the scene when the German rapper experimented with an effect device, creating a high-pitched voice similar to that of American rapper Quasimoto (the alter ego of Madlib). Interestingly, this pothead alter ego was created even before the release of a "real" album: the first Marsimoto album, 2006's Halloziehnation, arrived one year before Marteria's proper debut album, 2007's Base Ventura. Marsimoto's second album, Zu Zweit Allein, was released in 2008 and charted at number 84 in Germany. After another Marteria album, 2010's Zum Glück in die Zukunft, Marsimoto returned with the 2012 album Grüner Samt. The album, which featured production by Dead Rabbit, the Krauts, Kid Simius, and others, entered the charts at number three. ~ Christian Genzel
