Maria Becerra has lived up to her nickname as “La Nena de Argentina,” or “Argentina's girl,” winning over the hearts of her countrymen, and later the world, with infectious pop smashes and a bubbly personality to match. Born in 2000 in the city of Quilmes, in greater Buenos Aires, Becerra began uploading video content to social media as a teen, quickly gaining millions of followers with confessionals, make-up tutorials, and soulful covers of Rihanna and Ariana Grande. By the time Becerra launched her debut EP, 222, in 2019, she'd transmuted her viral charm into a seductive sound melding Argentina's ebullient trap movement with global pop ambition. She broadened her palette with Caribbean references and superstar guests, eventually breaking through with reggaetón scorcher “Qué Más Pues?” with J Balvin, later dipping into bachata with Prince Roy on “Te Espero.” The commercial success of Becerra’s 2022 LP, LA NENA DE ARGENTINA, and two sold-out shows at her home country’s massive River Plate Stadium decisively confirmed the weight of her endearing moniker.
