Best known as an originator of the cosmic disco sound that came into vogue in the 2000s, Norway’s Hans-Peter Lindstrøm (commonly known only by his surname) has since become an international force in electronic music. Born in Flekkefjord, Norway, in 1973, Lindstrøm grew up listening to American country music and played rock and folk before discovering dance music. He began releasing singles with a deep house vibe in 2000 under the name Slow Supreme before inaugurating his own Feedelity label with a 2003 EP. By 2005 he had partnered with Prins Thomas, and the pair forged a hypnotic cosmic disco sound incorporating the influences of Italo disco, ’70s German electronics, and ’80s electro. Over time, with and without Thomas, Lindstrøm diversified his sound, utilizing guest vocalists and onboarding ambient influences. Along the way, he earned multiple Norwegian music awards, collaborated with Todd Rundgren on 2015’s Runddans album, and became an in-demand remixer for a wide swath of artists, including Best Coast and LCD Soundsystem.
