South Africa’s Kyle Watson is a prominent figure in the global electronic/dance music scene. Born in Johannesburg in 1988, Watson learned how to play classical piano before becoming enamored with house music after his father introduced him to the genre during his formative years. After writing songs and experimenting with different sounds throughout his teens, Watson made his professional foray into music in 2007. His bassy approach borrows from fidget, the house subgenre that incorporates the synth stabs of rave with UK garage’s glitched-out beats. The eclectic producer/DJ has performed on some of the world’s biggest stages, including Dirty Campout, Lollapalooza, Electric Forest, and ULTRA. He has also remixed records by acts such as Rudimental, ZHU, Oliver Heldens, Justin Martin, and Malaa, and he has released music on esteemed labels including Spinin’ Records, Rising Music, Pacha Digital, and Televizion—a testament to the dynamic producer’s wide reach.
