Composers and musicians Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein first met at a Dallas skate park as teenagers.
∙ Dixon and Stein have been members of S U R V I V E, an Austin band known for its use of analog synthesizers, for more than a decade.
∙ Before composing the Stranger Things score, Stein repaired and sold used synthesizers and Dixon worked in software design.
∙ Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer heard S U R V I V E’s music on The Guest’s soundtrack and asked if the band might be interested in scoring their series.
∙ The Duffer Brothers used Dixon and Stein’s music as inspiration during the casting process for Stranger Things.
∙ In 2017, Dixon and Stein won an Emmy Award (Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music) for Stranger Things.
∙ Dixon and Stein scored the indie film Native Son as well as several series, including Butterfly, Spheres: Songs of Spacetime, and Valley of the Boom.
