In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. When I was about five, my parents took me to a friend’s home who had both a Steinway Concert Grand and a Hammond C3 organ. I remember running from one to the other playing both because I simply couldn’t choose which one I enjoyed playing more.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Bill Evans, Symbiosis George Shearing, The Shearing Piano The Manhattan Transfer, The Manhattan Transfer: The Christmas Album Remastered The Manhattan Transfer: The Christmas Album and Bill Evans' Symbiosis are masterful orchestrations. The Shearing Piano was a gift I received from George himself when I was 10. He was a remarkable artist who was also a lifelong friend and mentor.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “A Million Stars” Even with my poor vision, I’ve always enjoyed looking at the night sky. Late one evening, I sat in a completely darkened studio, playing a beautiful Hamburg Steinway Concert Grand and it inspired me to describe a night time sky filled with stars.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? As a blind pianist and composer hearing my compositions that I created using Apple's VoiceOver and Sibelius, my music notation program being played by both young piano students and world class orchestras has been transformative for me.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I love creating musical pictures and would love to write a score for a major motion picture. Music is a critical part of the film experience and I’d love to try and enhance a director’s artistic vision with my music.
