Artist Biography
Rapper, producer, and songwriter Kent Jones is best known for the 2016 summer jam “Don’t Mind,” which interpolates a Barry White melody and utilizes five different languages.
• The Tallahassee native plays drums and keyboard. He studied jazz and music theory.
• In 2012, he began working with Grammy-winning Miami production duo Cool & Dre. After signing to their Epidemic Music Label, he collaborated with artists like The Game, Busta Rhymes, and Queen Latifah.
• Through Cool & Dre, Kent met DJ Khaled. In 2015, the beatmaker signed to Khaled’s We the Best Music Group.
• His debut single, “Don’t Mind” topped Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs, crossed over to No. 8 on Hot 100, and went double platinum. In the song, Jones uses English, Spanish, French, Japanese, and Haitan Creole phrases. (He doesn’t speak any of those languages except English.)
• Lil Wayne and Pitbull appear on the official “Don’t Mind” remix.
• Jones teamed with Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, and Fabolous for “Don’t Ever Play Yourself,” from DJ Khaled’s chart-topping 2016 album Major Key.
• He was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2017 iHeartRadio Awards. Chance The Rapper took home the trophy.
