About Joy Downer

Artist Biography

Joy Downer's textured, soft-spoken adult alternative pop artfully balances the delicate and the playful. Embracing synths and drum machines as well as guitars and live percussion, her debut EP, Radio Dreamer, saw release in 2017. Downer provided the original theme song for the Netflix series Spinning Out in 2020. The project of Los Angeles-based musician Joy Bishop, with help from her husband, Jeffrey Downer, Joy Downer's recording debut, the EP Radio Dreamer, appeared in 2017. Produced by Rob Kolar (Kolars), it introduced her wispy vocals and a whimsical approach to arranging. Tracks like the post-punk-inspired "Plastic Wrap" and "Getaway Car" arrived over the next two years before her theme song "In the Water" for the ten-episode series Spinning Out appeared on New Year's Day 2020. Downer's self-produced full-length debut, Paper Moon, followed that June. ~ Marcy Donelson
