The Alexandra, South Africa producer Josiah De Disciple (born 1991), a former member of the pioneering amapiano duo JazziDisciples, has become one of the genre’s most revered producers by fusing amapiano with unexpected sounds drawn from jazz, deep house, Afropop, and soul. His 2021 release Spirit of Makoela Vol 2: The Re-Introduction pushed the sonic envelope by incorporating live instrumentation into the normally synth-heavy genre, an artistic shift teased by Umbuso Wabamnyama, his 2020 joint EP with vocalist Boohle.
