After signing a record contract with Pye Records, Joe Dolan and his backing band the Drifters recorded a version of Burt Bacharach’s "The Answer To Everything," which reached the Irish Top 10 in 1964. One of the most successful Irish showbands of their era, the Drifters enjoyed a string of hits including "My Own Peculiar Way," "Aching Breaking Heart," "Two Of A Kind," and "Tar And Cement." It was not until Dolan recorded solo that he broke into the U.K. charts, as "Make Me An Island" climbed to #3 in 1969. Subsequent hits included the plaintive "Teresa," and "You’re Such A Good Looking Woman." In 1978, Dolan became the first western pop singer to play in Moscow. He continued recording and touring until his death in 2007.
