German pianist and composer Joachim Kühn offers a kaleidoscopic style that crisscrosses everything from traditional jazz and classical to vanguard jazz, post-bop, and free improvisation with older brother/clarinetist Rolf Kühn. They cut Impressions of New York in 1968, and Joachim issued Bold Music in 1969. In 1976, he released the classic fusion outing Hip Elegy. During the '80s, Kühn delivered the trio date Easy to Read with drummer Daniel Humair and bassist Jean-François Jenny-Clark. Dynamics appeared in 1990 and charted. Colors: Live from Leipzig with Ornette Coleman was released in 1997. A trio collaboration with North African musicians, 2019's Out of the Desert, was followed by Melodic Ornette Coleman: Piano Works XIII, and the solo effort Touch the Light appeared in 2021. 2023's Komeda was recorded at the Berlin Philharmonic with his trio and Atom String Quartet. 2024's The Way featured bassist Thibaut Cellier and drummer Sylvain Darrifourcq.
