One of the leading names in gospel music, Jessy Dixon wrote some of the most recognizable songs in the genre. The Texan was discovered in Chicago by singer James Cleveland, who would go on to record several of his compositions, and Dixon was soon performing solo to much acclaim. He toured as a member of Paul Simon's band, and they continued to collaborate on the next two Simon albums. Dixon recorded his own debut single, 1977's "It's All Right Now," with producer Andraé Crouch. His biggest hit was 1993's "I Am Redeemed," which stayed on the Christian charts for almost five years. Along with his solo career, he wrote songs for the likes of Amy Grant, Natalie Cole, Cher, and Diana Ross, and his participation in Bill and Gloria Gaither's videos and tours led to many collaborations with the couple. Dixon worked steadily in the gospel industry throughout the early 2000s.
Jessy Dixon has also released music as a member of The Jessy Dixon Singers.
