About Jens Lekman
Artist Biography
A troubadour with a finely honed insight into the human condition and a creative approach to arranging pop music, Jens Lekman has established himself as one of indie pop’s premier songwriters of the 21st century. Born in 1981 in Gothenburg, Sweden, Jens Martin Lekman began writing and self-releasing songs as a teenager. After the release of his 2003 7-inch “Maple Leaves,” Lekman began garnering notice from labels in Sweden and around the world. His 2004 debut album, When I Said I Wanted To Be Your Dog, was hailed for its wonder-tinged lyrics and creative (and at times startlingly intricate) production. Oh You’re So Silent Jens, which compiled Lekman’s earlier recordings, followed in 2005, and in 2007 he released Night Falls Over Kortedala, which showcased his growth as a songwriter and arranger. Lekman released the smoothed-out I Know What Love Isn’t in 2012 and followed that with the epistolary Life Will See You Now in 2017. His sample-heavy productions on Silent and Kortedala led to those records being “retired” from streaming services in 2022; shortly after that, he released The Cherry Trees Are Still In Blossom and The Linden Trees Are Still In Blossom, which feature rerecordings of, respectively, the Silent and Kortedala tracks as well as new songs.
