Rapper and singer Jazz Cartier makes moody R&B-tinged hip-hop that combines his laid-back demeanor with atmospheric beats.
• The stepson of a diplomat, Cartier moved around throughout his childhood. He attended prep schools in Connecticut and Virginia before ultimately returning to his birthplace of Toronto to focus on music.
• He began working with producer Lantz and earning buzz with early singles like “Set Fire” and “Switch.”
• Cartier’s 2016 mixtape Hotel Paranoia earned him a Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year.
• His 2018 debut studio album, Fleurever, features production from WondaGurl, Ryan Hemsworth, and more. The title is derived from his nickname, Fleur, French for “flower.”
