English singer/songwriter Jamie Webster makes fist-pumping folk for the people—especially his fellow Liverpudlians. The one-time electrician got his start in music gigging around the city with guitar in hand, mostly to help fund his other love: cheering for the Liverpool Football Club. When he merged both passions into 2018’s “Allez Allez Allez,” a crowd-stirring anthem adapted from the Italo disco staple “L’estate sta finendo,” he’d found his calling. With the city and club as his biggest inspirations, Webster crafted another rousing local anthem in foot-stomping single “This Place,” a highlight from his 2020 acoustic-powered debut, We Get By. The same month the album hit the UK charts, he released another hit in BOSS Night, a live collection packed with more raucous football songs. But the Merseysider has looked increasingly beyond the football pitch, especially on the early singles from his 2022 album Moments, a defiant yet triumphant collection of folk- and rock-heavy tales that celebrate working-class heroes everywhere.
