British-born, Chicago-based guitarist and vocalist James Elkington writes introspective, harmonically nuanced songs heavily informed by traditional and progressive folk of the 1960s and '70s. After establishing himself as a staple sideman of Chicago's indie scene, he worked as a collaborator with artists like Jeff Tweedy and Louisville guitarist Nathan Salsburg. He made his own debut with 2017's Wintres Woma and its 2020 follow-up, Ever-Roving Eye, and then produced critically acclaimed albums by Joan Shelley and Jake Xerxes Fussell. Elkington returned to solo work with 2023's all-instrumental double album Me Neither. It was followed a year later by All Gist, his third collection of guitar duets with Salsburg. More intricate guitar instrumentals marked 2025's Pastel de Nada.
