Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I was at a beat battle at SAE and I got eliminated in the 1st round. Then I got brought back as a wild card and dominated every round. One of my peers stood up and yelled “OH MY GOD HE ROSE FROM THE DEAD, ITS BEAT JESUS”. Now they call me Beat Jesus.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Chris Brown, Chris Brown JAY-Z, The Black Album Kanye West, Late Registration These 3 albums taught me about composition, arrangement, & music production. The vulnerability in these albums is everything. I was a teenager when these albums dropped but this sound was all I needed. I needed my music to be polarizing like this.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Cake Thompson” I’ve made a lot of music. I rarely feel like I’ve made my own theme music. It makes me feel like a super hero. It’s like Miami Vice fused with that GA rap sound. Every time I hear it, I can’t play it just once. It’s on repeat until I get out the car.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? It may not mean anything now but at one point I was #1 Unsigned Artist in the world on MySpace. That meant everything to me until I got hacked and lost my page. Then I realized this internet fame means nothing if it’s not the same in the real world.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Only thing left is leave my mark and make an impact in the world. I want to use success to rebuild communities and give back. Selfishly, I wanna leave such a huge impact on the music industry that people say “That sounds like an ItsCake beat”.
