Possessed of an expressive, throaty contralto, Sweden's Ida Sand is regarded as one of Europe's finest jazz, pop, and R&B singers. After beginning her studio career as a backing vocalist, she made her solo debut on Act for 2007's Meet Me Around Midnight. Her jazzed-up reading of Bill Withers' "Use Me" resonated with DJs. Sand began touring Europe, and in 2009, she collaborated with her husband, jazz guitarist Ola Gustafsson, on True Love that included five stylistically diverse originals. For 2011's The Gospel Truth, Sand -- who is also a fine pianist -- performed classic soul, gospel, and pop tunes. 2015's Young at Heart was dedicated to songs by and associated with Neil Young. Three years later, she released My Soul Kitchen, a collection of R&B covers and jazz originals. 2021's self-produced Do You Hear Me? was composed entirely of originals.
Ida Sand has also released music as a member of Nils Landgren Funk Unit.
