For more than 15 years, hard-partying Oklahoma City outfit Hinder has topped the charts while carrying the torch for old-fashioned rock ’n’ roll.
∙ The group first took shape in 2001, after drummer Cody Hanson and guitarist Joe Garvey spotted vocalist Austin Winkler singing covers at a college party and asked him to join their band.
∙ Hinder’s 2005 debut album, Extreme Behavior, went triple Platinum after reaching No. 6 on the Billboard 200.
∙ “Lips of an Angel,” the second single from Extreme Behavior, was an international smash—it hit No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went to No. 1 in both Australia and New Zealand.
∙ In 2007, Hinder was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame.
∙ Their Gold-certified sophomore album, 2008’s Take It to the Limit, featured a guest turn from Mötley Crüe guitarist Mick Mars.
∙ Following the departure of Winkler in 2013—and shows with fill-in vocalists such as Jared Weeks of Saving Abel—Hinder’s longtime producer Marshal Dutton took over as the band’s lead singer.
Members of Hinder include, or have included, Cody Hanson, Mark King, and J. Garvey.
