David Holt is best known as a banjo player, but he's skilled at pretty much anything with strings (guitar, dulcimer, ukelele, etc.), and he brought the spirit of traditional folk and old-timey music into a contemporary setting. Holt has made a multi-media impact promoting traditional American music as the host of the North Carolina public TV show Folkways and the public radio show Riverwalk, not to mention the folk mastery displayed on his own recordings and his Grammy-winning work with his mentor Doc Watson. Holt has also released a significant number of children's recordings.
