Hannah Laing is cranking up the BPM of UK dance music. Whether the Scottish artist is crafting hard house or bouncy techno with a touch of trance, she does it with buzzing, peak-time energy. Born to raver parents in Dundee in 1994, Laing was raised on dance music. From DJing local pubs at 18, she quickly progressed to Ibiza residencies. Music production followed: Laing released her first single in 2014, but it was her hard-edged 2019 bootleg of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Murder On The Dancefloor” that pushed her onto the radar. Her self-described “doof music”—her catch-all term for party tunes—injects energy into any dance floor, from the frenetic “Get Busy” to her clubbed-up rework of Eddie Murphy’s “Party All The Time.” As rooted as Laing is to the dance floor, her lively sounds also have crossover appeal. Her 2023 single “Good Love” with RoRo was a summer hit, peaking within the UK Singles Chart Top 10.
