In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I was watching the Wonderful World of Disney when my teenage aunt ran in and breathlessly changed the channel to the usually boring Ed Sullivan Show. Then The Beatles came on. I had never experienced anything as exciting in my 8 years of life.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Radiohead, OK Computer Rufus Wainwright, Poses Talking Heads, Talking Heads: 77 At the lowest depths of the disco era, Talking Heads renewed my faith in music. Radiohead's album lifted me to nearly Beatle-like rapture, it was and is so fresh. And Rufus' sophomore album is full of exquisite songwriting and amazing phrasing.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Anna” My success with The Bobs was fantastic, but I longed to see if I could express myself beyond humor and vocal arranging. The chance to write an album of chamber music was heaven, and writing in memory of my great aunt Anna brought out my best.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Getting my musical, The Shaggs: Philosophy of the World, produced Off-Broadway was tremendous. Never have I worked so hard for so long on something. Playwrights Horizons and NYTW pushed us to rewrite again and again; the result was magical!
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I'm nowhere near done. I'd love to write a hit song; write a full-length film score; score a museum installation; write the BEST hold music the world has ever had to endure.
