Influenced by American hip-hop and emo music, internet rapper gummyboy is helping to popularize Japanese Soundcloud rap.
• Although he first emerged on the internet in early 2018 with his SKLTN EP, gummyboy became a topic of interest several months later, following the December release of his Ultimate Nerd Gang EP.
• On the side, gummyboy joined forces with his friend and fellow rapper Tohji to form Mall Boyz. About a week after Ultimate Nerd Gang, the duo issued Mall Tape. Its lead single, “Higher,” streamed in the millions.
• In 2019, gummyboy released the project Pearl Drop, featuring producer stei and alt-pop artist Le Makeup on all three tracks.
• His 2020 debut mixtape The World of Tiffany, clocks in at a mere 18 minutes.
