In the artist’s words:
Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Some of my fondest memories are me & my sisters singing in my father’s church. He was a musician himself and I watched him produce and arrange really funky songs on his Korg Triton during the week. I just couldn’t wait to sing on Sunday mornings.
What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? D'Angelo, Voodoo G.A., Tye Tribbett, Victory Live! Jill Scott, Who Is Jill Scott?: Words and Sounds, Vol. 1 The pinnacle of musicianship, vocal prowess, and production value. These albums push the boundaries of what I believe to be possible in music and encourage me to be ambitious.
Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Crying In the Bathroom (Live)” This song got my career moving, and I didn’t really think it would. I sang the song fighting back tears. I wanted the song to be pensive, desperate, vulnerable, almost exposed & bare because that’s how I felt.
What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? "Palomino," my first self-produced conceptual project, which focuses on black gay fems. I love how liberated I am in comparison to my first work, and the response from my peers was fantastic. I'm glad I didn't let that music die on the vine.
Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would definitely love to do some shows with an awesome band at a live music & dinner venue. I’d create some different arrangements of my music and explore musical interests I don’t really get to express through recording.
