Hometown
West London, England
Genre
Alternative
Originally formed as a nu-folk outfit, West London five-piece Goldhawks later reinvented themselves as an indie band with an anthemic stadium rock sound inspired by the blue-collar Americana of Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty. Named after a street in their native Shepherd's Bush area of London, singer Bobby Cook initially performed as a solo act, releasing a single, "Deja Vu," in 2007, and performing with the likes of Noah and the Whale, Laura Marling, and Jamie T. Deciding to form a band instead, he recruited guitarist brother Jack, bassist Colin Straton, keyboardist Nick Mills, and drummer Graham Smith, but after becoming "bored with acoustic guitars," the group went electric with their limited-edition debut single "Where in the World," a sound they continued to develop while supporting the Temper Trap and the Courteeners, and recording material with Pixies producer Gil Norton. After performing at the Twilight Saga: New Moon launch party, the Bestival festival, and the Club NME tour, they released their first album, Trick of Light, through Mercury Records in 2011. ~ Jon O'Brien
