Gary Taylor is one of the more beloved producers of nuanced and sophisticated R&B. The Los Angeles native wrote songs for Platypus, Executive, and Michael Wycoff before he signed with A&M. As a recording artist, he debuted in 1983 but went back to composing material for the likes of the Whispers. Taylor truly hit his stride in 1988, the year he released the quiet storm staple "Tease Me" and wrote "Good Love" for Anita Baker. The following decade, he released four albums, highlighted by Square One (1993), and had his songs recorded by the likes of Mac Band, Lalah Hathaway, and Jennifer Holliday. Although his rate of recording slowed a bit during the following decades, Taylor had no trouble sustaining his fan base. ~ Andy Kellman
