About Gallon Drunk
Artist Biography
Playing high-energy rock ‘n’ roll, Gallon Drunk emerged in the early-90s playing a raucous blend of punk, rockabilly and art-rock, earning favorable comparisons to the Birthday Party. After releasing singles on their manager’s own Massive label, Gallon Drunk moved on to Clawfist for their 1992 debut album, as well as the superior follow-up FROM THE HEART OF TOWN in '93, featuring the contributions of horn player Terry Edwards. Singer, James Johnston subsequently toured with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. After a lengthy hiatus, Gallon Drunk returned in 2000, with the soundtrack to BLACK MILK. Johnston became a full-time member of the Bad Seeds in 2003, although he continued to work with Gallon Drunk on an ad hoc basis, appearing on THE ROTTEN MILE in 2007.
