Artist Biography
Gaetano Partipilo is an Italian alto saxophonist, composer, and educator. His emotive, reedy tone is expressed in a playing style that bridges post-bop, contemporary jazz, R&B, and modal music. He founded the group Urban Society, who issued their acclaimed self-titled debut in 2002. He played a key role on Nicola Conte's international hit Jet Sounds; the two established an ongoing working relationship. Partipilo also played a key role on Garota Moderna, the 2004 Schema debut by vocalist Rosalia De Souza. BASIC, Urban Society's sophomore outing, appeared in 2004. In 2007 he cut The Right Place in New York City with an American quartet. In 2013, Partipilo released Besides: Songs from the Sixties, which was selected by jazz critics internationally as one of the year's best jazz albums. Partipilo returned with the Paolo Fresu-produced Daylight in 2016. Three years later, he released Boom Collective and in 2020 The Other Side.
