About E.R.P.
Artist Biography
E.R.P. is the alias under which Gerard Hanson, aka Convextion, produces lush and melodic electro-techno. The low-profile Texan released the first E.R.P. tracks in 1996 on Matrix, the same label where he debuted a year earlier as the dub techno-leaning Convextion. E.R.P. appeared to be a one-off until 2005, when Hanson reactivated it on Down Low Music. Around a dozen subsequent 12" releases followed through the mid-2010s on far-flung imprints such as Ai, Frustrated Funk, and Semantica. The evocative and winding paths the producer had taken with his E.R.P. tracks seemed just as adaptable to the album format as any of his influences (including Model 500 and Drexciya), and in 2018 and 2019, he self-released the double packs Afterimage and Exomoon on his Forgotten Future label. Hanson found another home for E.R.P. on Madrid's Apnea label, and issued Faded Caprice, a soundtrack for a late-summer night drive, in 2024.
