Emptyset is an innovative electronic duo whose ambitious, conceptual projects and recordings explore the material properties of sound. Initially producing minimal techno, the group beefed up the bass and distortion for their self-titled 2009 full-length. Subsequent releases departed from club music, as the duo constructed throbbing, untethered rhythms from processed signals recorded in unconventional spaces, such as a mansion (2012's Medium) and abandoned nuclear power stations (2013's Material). The pair emphasized the physical properties of their work with 2017's Borders, recorded live using homemade instruments. Dissever, a set of one-take studio performances of material originally presented at Tate Modern, appeared in 2025.
