Elmer Bernstein was one of the most prolific and highly regarded film composers of the 20th century. His big breakthrough was the 1955 Frank Sinatra film THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM, which was the first movie to feature an all-jazz score and begat countless imitators. A year later, he unfurled the massive orchestrations for Cecil B. DeMille's highly touted big-budget epic THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. Bernstein worked ceaselessly throughout the ensuing decades, his scores for THE GRIFTERS, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, and THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN being among the most notable.
