After winning on Season 1 of the competition series The Launch in 2018, the Canadian pop duo Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine scored a double-platinum hit with “Ain’t Easy.”
• Musician-composer Elijah Woods and singer-songwriter Jamie Fine formed a duo in 2014 after meeting as students at Ottawa’s Algonquin College.
• For several years, the twosome worked writing and producing in the studio to make songs for others. Their manager suggested they consider stepping into the spotlight.
• In 2018, ExJ won the second episode of the The Launch by creating their own version of “Ain’t Easy,” a song cowritten by OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder and Camila Cabello.
• ExJ’s version of “Ain’t Easy” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Canada AC chart. The song also appeared on the duo’s 2019 EP 8:47, released through Nashville’s Big Machine label.
• At the 2020 Juno Awards, Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine were nominated for Group of the Year, while 8:47 was up for Pop Album of the Year.
