About Eddie Fowlkes
Artist Biography
Detroit techno originator Eddie Fowlkes uses the term "techno soul" to describe his music, which is rooted in Motown, funk, and Chicago house. Though he has often been overlooked in favor of the more press-hyped "Belleville Three," he's always been held in high esteem by techno aficionados, and his handprints are cemented into the Detroit Historical Museum's Legends Plaza. His first singles appeared on Juan Atkins' Metroplex label in the 1980s, and Berlin techno institution Tresor released his collaborations with Atkins, Blake Baxter, and 3MB (Thomas Fehlmann and Moritz von Oswald) during the early '90s. Solo full-length Black Technosoul arrived in 1996, and other material has appeared on labels such as Submerge, Peacefrog, and Defected, but Fowlkes has otherwise released the bulk of his catalog through his own City Boy and Detroit Wax imprints. Fowlkes' extensive 2020s output has included the ongoing Knuckle Head Series and 2025's "All Day Vibes."
