About DNA music
Artist Biography
This US band was a short-lived collaboration between guitarist Rick Derringer (b. Richard Zehringer, 5 August 1947, Fort Recovery, Ohio, USA) and drummer Carmine Appice (b. 15 December 1946, Staten Island, New York, USA). With the assistance of Duane Hitchings (keyboards) and Jimmy Johnson (bass), they released Party Tested in 1983. This featured a wide range of styles that included jazz, rock, funk, blues and pop. The playing was beyond criticism, but the songs were devoid of soul, and the album as a whole lacked unity and cohesion. Failing to win support in the media, DNA disintegrated when Appice accepted an offer to join Ozzy Osbourne’s band. Almost two decades later, Appice and Derringer reunited to record an album as DBA with bass player Tim Bogert. (NB: Not to be confused with the New York-based punk band of the late 70s.)
