Michael Hampton, aka DJ Magic Mike, came up as a DJ, producer, and mixer during the mid-’80s Miami Bass explosion, which was helmed at the time by artists such as 2 Live Crew, Pretty Tony, and Amos Larkins. However, his inventive scratching and left-field sampling lent a uniquely electro feel to his low-rider-rattling bass. BASS IS THE NAME OF THE GAME (1988) is often cited as an underground classic, and its influence is now heard in Southern booty DJs such as 69 Boyz and turntablists such as X-Ecutioners in equal measure.

DJ Magic Mike has also released music as a member of Vicious Base and DJ Magic Mike and the Royal Posse.
