German bass-house legend DJ Hanzel is the comedic alter ego of American EDM producer and "social media prankster" Dillon Francis. Best known musically as one of the pioneers of moombahton, but equally famous for his absurd internet stunts, Francis created Hanzel near the start of his career, and revived him periodically over the years, even creating an elaborate fictional biography for him. The satirical character is a parody of the archetypal self-obsessed, self-serious artist. Hanzel played his first U.S. headline show in 2016 at Exchange L.A. and returned during the COVID-19 pandemic with a live-streamed DJ set that garnered 150,000 views. He released his debut album, Anti Everything, in 2023.
