About Divine
Artist Biography
Though best remembered for his memorable roles in John Waters classics like PINK FLAMINGOS and FEMALE TROUBLE, the foul-mouthed drag performer Divine (given name Harris Glenn Milstead) also had a notable recording career as an unrepentantly provocative anti-chanteuse for the gay club era. After cutting a single, “Born To Be Cheap,” on the pioneering Chicago electro label Wax Trax in 1979, Divine collaborated with noted disco producer Bobby Orlando on a string of singles, including the hits “Shoot Your Shot” and “Love Reaction.” Though none of Divine’s subsequent releases enjoyed the success of those early singles, many of his releases remain underground classics.
