Dee-1 is an amiable underdog rapper inspired by the likes of 2Pac, Nas, and Lauryn Hill, as well as his Christian faith. The prolific New Orleans native released a handful of mixtapes before he made his proper album debut with David & Goliath (2009), a self-issued set that prompted an offer from Cash Money Records (which he declined). Dee raised his profile again with the star-studded Focus Tape (2012) and then briefly recorded for RCA Inspiration and Essential Sound, releasing the 3's Up EP (2015) and Slingshot David (2017) for those Sony-distributed labels. Since then, the increasingly wise Dee has settled in with Mission Vision Music, his platform for projects such as God and Girls (2019), the Murs collaboration He's the Christian, I'm the Rapper (2020), and LOADED (2024).
