About Death
Artist Biography
Bobby, Dannis, and Davis Hackney were raised in Detroit in the 1960s, and while the African-American brothers reveled in their regional R&B, their love of guitars, bass, and drums was cemented after seeing Iggy & the Stooges live. They recorded their first demos in the mid 1970s, and after the studio owner brought them to the attention of Clive Davis, the brothers signed a deal with Columbia Records. However, Davis backed away when Death refused to change their name, and they wound up releasing the existing songs on their own label. Decades later, Bobby’s sons convinced their father to dig out the tapes, and a deal was reached with Drag City to reissue the lost classics in 2009 as For The Whole World To See.
