About Dax J
Artist Biography
Dax J is a London-born, Berlin-based DJ and producer of raw, pounding techno and drum'n'bass. His dark, ominous tracks reflect themes of political unrest and paranoia, but they contain lighter, more atmospheric elements as well, influenced by dub and ambient. He originally began producing jungle records during the 2000s, including a 12" on Urban Takeover and releases on his own Xplicit Recordings. After spending a summer in Ibiza, he became obsessed with techno, and began releasing several 12"s during the early 2010s on labels such as EarToGround Records and Deeply Rooted. In 2013, he formed the Berlin-based Monnom Black label, releasing records by himself as well as producers such as Kaelan and Emmanuel. His own records appeared on additional labels like Soma and Arts Collective. His debut full-length, Shades of Black, arrived on Monnom Black in 2015, reflecting his jungle roots as well as his mastery of cold, suspenseful techno. Additional EPs followed in 2016 on Clergy (Chasing Shadows), Monnom Black (The Invisible Man), and Electric Deluxe (Illusions of Power). ~ Paul Simpson
