Brooklyn-based saxophonist Darius Jones works in settings ranging from vanguard and contemporary jazz groups to electro-acoustic and chamber ensembles to vocal groups. In 2006 he co-founded the free jazz/avant-rock quartet Little Women. In 2009, he released Man'ish Boy (A Raw & Beautiful Thing), the first in a series of conceptually linked albums devoted to Afro-futurist music that continues. 2011 saw Cosmic Lieder and Darkseid Recital, followed by Big Gurl (Smell My Dream). Book of Mæ'bul (Another Kind of Sunrise) appeared in 2012. His vocal quartet, the Elizabeth-Caroline Unit, released The Oversoul Manual in 2014. He followed with Le Bébé de Brigitte featuring French composer/vocalist Emilie Lesbros. In 2021, Jones' live solo saxophone outing Raw Demoon Alchemy (A Lone Operation) appeared. It was followed in 2023 by fLuXkit Vancouver (i̶t̶s̶ suite but sacred), a four-movement work. The trio offering Legend of E'boi (The Hypervigilant Eye) arrived in 2024.
